FTP Explorer Mobile Overview
FTP Explorer Mobile is a simple and easy to use FTP Client for Windows Mobile based devices that you can use to upload and download documents and files from remote FTP places. The most common use for FTP is to download documents and applications, but many users find FTP a simple tool for publishing web sites.
FTP is the abbreviation for the File Transfer Protocol. The protocol enables one device to communicate to another for the purpose of transferring files to or from another device. FTP Explorer Mobile uses the FTP protocol and presents a simple and easy to understand file system similar to the file system your device has, with folders (directories) and the files that are contained in the folders. There are two separate file system views in FTP Explorer Mobile, one for the device file system and on for the remote file systems. To transfer files between your device and a FTP server, simply select the files that you would like to transfer, and the copy to command will transfer the files to the current folder of the alternate file system..
Many FTP servers require special privileges and permissions to access, or create files and folders. If you do not have access to certain functionalities you may need to configure the FTP server that the device is connected to or consult with the servers administrator.
Passive Mode
Passive mode is a alternate way implement the FTP protocol that may allow easier traversal of a firewall, or cellular data networks. The FTP protocol has a unique connection for commands, and separate connections for file transfer requests. Each connection in uni-directional, with a starting and ending point. Passive changes the default connection from the client to the server.

Troubleshooting
Network Connections
Before you can can make a connection to a network, it has to be configured.
Most Pocket PCs and Smartphones bought from a telecommunication provider such as
Cingular, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, Orange, O2 or Vodafone are pre-configured
to work with their data infrastructure, such as CDMA, GPRS or HSCSD.
You can verify if a connection is configured correctly simply by opening any
Internet site in Internet Explorer Mobile. If your device is not in a cradle,
the device should automatically open the configured Internet connection. If your
device isn't pre-configured, you'll need to create a connection in connection
manager. Please refer to your device manual and your service provider. If you
have the device in a cradle and use ActiveSync 3.5 or higher, the connection
will be automatically established via ActiveSync.
Transferring Files
Troubleshooting can be as simple as an explanation of an error message.
- FEM-CRC-3
- Reason: FTP Explorer Mobile was unable to connect to the FTP Place.
- Solution: Verify that the host name, port, user name, and password are correct.
- Solution: Verify that your device has a network connection
- Solution: Verify that your wireless provider has enabled data connections for your device
- Problem: I receive the FEM-CF-1 or FEM-CF-4 error when transferring a
file.
- Reason: Your device has limited storage space, and does not have enough space to create a new file.
- Solution: Use a storage card to transfer the files.
