Notepad Mobile Overview

Notepad Mobile is a simple and easy to use text editor and viewer for Windows Mobile-based devices that you can use to create simple documents. The most common use for Notepad is to view or edit text (.txt) files, but many users find Notepad a simple tool for creating messages to send as SMS or e-mail attachments.

Because Notepad supports only very basic formatting, you cannot accidentally save special formatting in documents that need to remain pure text. This is especially useful when creating HTML documents for a Web page because special characters or other formatting may not appear in your published Web page or may even cause errors.

Notepad Mobile supports ANSI and Unicode text files. If the file has been saved as a Unicode Text file, the file will automatically be recognized and loaded with the encoding if supported. Notepad Mobile supports the UTF-8, UTF-16, and UTF-16 Big Endian Unicode encodings. If you add text to an ANSI document that can only be represented with Unicode encoding, a Save operation will prompt you to save as UTF-8 Unicode, or loose the Unicode formatting.

Usage

Notepad Mobile is a simple and easy to use text editor you can use to create, modify or view simple notes, documents, or web pages.

Finding characters or words

You can specify characters or words to search for, the matching text will automatically be highlighted and scrolled into visibility. Search Next functionality makes it easy to find the next occurrence of the search string. The Search Next command will be automatically added to the Left Soft Key when a successful search has been completed.

To find specific characters or words

1. From the Edit menu select Find
2. In Find what, enter the characters or words you want to find.
3. In Direction, Select the direction for the search.
4. For Match case, enable if the search is case dependant.
5. Choose Find

Wrap text to the screen size

You can enable wrapping text to see all of the text from each line on the screen. This mode is useful to view and edit all of the document.

To wrap text to the screen size

1. From the Options menu select Word Wrap

Go to a specific location

You can easily go to the beginning or end of the document.

To go to a specific location in the document

1. From the Edit menu select Go To
2. Select the position in the document to Go to, Start or End.

To cut, copy, paste, or delete text

Selection mode can be used to select words or characters for editing purposes. Cut text to move it to a different location, or application, Copy text to paste it to another location or application, and Paste test that you cave copied from any application to the cursor position. There are also Delete and Undo functions to remove text or changes you have made. You can even insert the current time and date. Append, merge, or insert different files with the Insert File option.

Selecting Text

You can select text with the Stylus, or with the directional pad. If you would like to select text with the directional pad, move the cursor to the beginning or end of the text you would like to select and choose the Mark item from the menu. Move the cursor until the text you would like to select is selected. You may turn of the Mark functionality at this point.

Document Editing

• To cut text to move it to another location, select the text, and then choose Cut from the Edit menu.
• To copy text to use in another location, select the text, and then choose Copy from the Edit menu.
• To paste text you have cut or copied, place the cursor where you would like to paste the text, and then choose Paste from the Edit menu.
• To delete text, select it, and then choose Delete from the Edit menu.

Change the font style and size

To change the font style and size

1. From the Options menu select Display Font
2. Make selections for Typeface, Size, Weight, Style, and ClearType.

Insert the time and date

You can insert the current date and time, or a file into the document.

To insert the date and time into a document

1. Move the cursor the the position you would like to insert the Time and Date.
2. From the Insert menu select Time/Date

To insert another document into a document

1. Move the cursor the the position you would like to insert the document.
2. From the Insert menu select File
3. Select the document that you would like to insert.

Registration

To enable the full functionality of the application you will need to enter a valid registration code. When you have entered your registration code properly, you will be able to select Done. If the code you have entered is incorrect, you will not be able to select done.
