Chess Mobile, by Orneta is a game of Chess for Windows Mobile-based devices. Chess is a board game played by two opponents called White and Black. The goal of each player is to attack the opponent's King so that it has no escape. Players take turns moving one piece at a time to weaken their opponent's position and to strengthen their own.

Chess Mobile Overview

Chess Mobile is based upon the rules of the classic strategy game of Chess.

Chess Mobile is a complex strategy game, your success is dependant upon your skill. Your ability to consider your opponents' moves, and your ability to adjust to changing strategies. The strategies employed in chess are very numerous. There are many books written on the subject, as you begin to master the game, you may be inclined to turn to these references for more advanced information.

The object of chess is to place your opponents king in checkmate. Each player has one king, when any players king is unable to move out of an opposing pieces attack, the game is over and the king has been placed in checkmate.

Chess is played on an eight by eight board. Each player has 16 pieces, arranged on the two closest rows. The furthest row from the player consists entirely of pawns. During the game pieces can move around the board, if you move one of your pieces into a space occupied by your opponent, you will capture the piece.

Usage

Playing Chess:

Players take alternating turns moving a piece around the board. You may not move a piece to a space occupied by your own piece. You may move your piece to a space occupied by an opponents piece, which will capture the piece, effectively removing it from the board. There are six types of pieces which each player posses at the beginning of the game, each type moves in a unique way.

  • Pawn - Only moves forward, one square at a time. On a pawns first move, it may move two squares. A pawn can only capture diagonally forward, by one square.
  • Castle - Moves forward, backwards, or sideways as many spaces as the board allows. A castle cannot move diagonally.
  • Knight - Moves two squares and then one square at a perpendicular angle. A knight may move over other pieces.
  • Bishop - Moves diagonally in any direction as many spaces as the board allows.
  • Queen - Moves any direction as many spaces as the board will allow.
  • King - Moves any direction one space at a time.

Unique Rules:

Pawn Promotion - If you advance your pawn to the furthest row from you, you can promote the pawn to a castle, knight, bishop or queen.

Castling - You can move your king out of harm, while moving your castle to a protective space in a single move if neither the castle or the king has moved during the game. There must be no pieces in between the two pieces. The king moves two spaces towards the castle, and the caste moves to the space the king skipped over.

You may change the difficulty level and other options from the settings screen. When you begin to play chess you should select an easy difficulty level. Take your time and study the board.
